As the summer season enters its final month, Glossop’s golfers continue to fight for some of the club’s most prestigious awards.
The Fitton Trophy, which was held on Saturday, the sixteenth of September, saw a new member, Mark Caples emerging victorious after a closely fought competition. Mark’s 63 led the way in the second division, one ahead of Kevin Drinkwater’s 64, with Ted Hartshorne taking third spot on 67. In the first division Mike Townend returned a 65 to take the honours, Steve Wilson following close on his heels with a 66 and Luke Siddall’s 67 claiming third place.
Last Saturday saw D J Pape and Associates of Glossop continuing their relationship with the club when they sponsored another major event, the Malcolm Siddall Memorial Trophy.
As a result of the sponsors’ generosity, the competition was split into three categories. In Division One Eddie Frost came to the fore with a score of 38 points, one ahead of Mike Peake and Dave Money who each finished on 37. The second division found Steve Upsall on top with 39 points, two ahead of Ian Walmsley and Simon Smith, but the trophy itself went to Adam Longson of the third division whose 43 points left his rivals trailing in his wake. Second place in that division went to Lee Chapman’s 36, and Phil Crawshaw ended the day in third on 35 points.
Once again, the club would like to thank its sponsors for all their efforts throughout the year and if any other local company would like to become involved in sponsoring events at the club then they should contact the Professional, Jamie Goodhall, on 01457 853117, or by using the email address, email@example.com .
